How to become an International Relation Diplomat?

Step 1:   Complete Higher Secondary Education: After class 10th, pursue higher secondary education by enrolling in a school or college offering a 10+2 curriculum. Choose subjects such as Political Science, Economics, History, and Geography to develop a strong foundation in social sciences.

Step 2:   Pursue a Bachelor's Degree: After completing higher secondary education, pursue a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Opt for a Bachelor's program in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or a related discipline. Several universities and colleges in India offer undergraduate programs in these fields.

Step 3:   Obtain a Master's Degree: A master's degree in International Relations or a related field is highly recommended to enhance your knowledge and skills in the field. You can pursue a Master's program in International Relations, Political Science, or Global Studies. Several universities in India offer postgraduate programs in these areas.

Step 4:   Gain Language Proficiency: Develop proficiency in foreign languages depending on your interest and the regions you wish to specialize in.

Step 4:   Prepare for Competitive Examinations: To become a diplomat in India, you will need to clear the competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This includes the Civil Services Examination, which is a nationwide competitive exam.

Step 5:   Clear the Selection Process: Once you qualify for the Civil Services Examination, you will undergo a rigorous selection process that includes a written examination, personal interview, and medical examination. Clearing these stages will make you eligible for a position as a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

Step 6:   Join the Indian Foreign Service (IFS): Upon successfully completing the selection process, you will be appointed as a diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service. As a member of the IFS, you will receive specialized training and be posted to various diplomatic missions abroad or serve in the Ministry of External Affairs in India.
